Owl cupcakes Inspired by Michelle Cake Designs
OK I have to confess I have had fun making these little owl cupcakes to match Olivia the Owl 3D cake. The confession is I did this on the spur of the moment and the cupcakes are very old and I found them in the bottom of my freezer but I promise no one will eat them and I just wanted to play!!
I have added an image on how I made them.
How to make Owl cupcakes
I used two rose petal cutters. The larger one was used for the body and the smaller one to cut the top out of the head and to cut two wings. They are very easy but as I was making them I was thinking and they are quite time consuming so if I had a lot to make I would pipe the beak and the feet just to make it quicker.
You could make these owls on little fondant discs to add to the top of buttercream cupcakes.
In the photo the cupcake bases are white, chocolate brown and soft pink – the pink does not really show.
I should also mention that I have added a weekend class for the 3D Owl Cake as I had a lot of requests for it. It will be Sunday 26th February more…..
I will have a really bright and colourful owl cake to show you soon similar to my signature cake after that I promise no more owls!!
Bye for now, Michelle

Hi Michelle, These wee owls are so cute! I must confess though I am also writing this comment to pick your brain and ask you a quick question please….I want to expand my flower making skills and wonder if you have a favourite tutorial-type book you could recommend. There are heaps on the market but I thought I’d ask if you have a fav. Many thanks Michelle and I’m still hoping I can get back to Sydney for another one of your classes one day soon. Libby.
Sorry Libby I don’t really although I don’t think you can go wrong with one of Alan Dunn’s books. I tend to keep my flowers simpler in method!!! Bye for now, Michelle

Great post! Such a wonderfully simple yet effective tutorial – not a billion step by step photos that are so hard to scroll through when actually making the product.
Thanks for sharing, Michelle!
