Bird cage cake class inspired by michelle cake designs

11th and 12th October 2011

Two day class where you will learn how to construct a bird cage cake no matter how many guests the cake needs to serve.

Bird cage cakes are so popular with good reason – they look spectacular. They easily match the reception decor, invitations and are the perfect design for an outdoor event.

Learn how to set up what is essentially a three tier cake with a centre pole so that it is stable and easily transported. Ganache a cake to result in a smooth finish and shaping the top give the dome of the cage and wrapping a cake.

This bird cage is simply decorated with spring flowers in a colour selection of your choice.

Would love to see a video on how you are able to use your ganache to result in a smooth finish! Or? Do you have a video already out like that? :0)

Hi Michelle,
This would have been really helpful to me a couple of weeks ago….I had to do one for a wedding last weekend – I love the design and like you said, it is so incredibly versitile.
I am really looking forward to coming down – I should have booked an earlier flight and signed up for all of your classes for the week!

Yes Mannie there will be classes for next year. I’m just trying to work out if the majority of people would like to do classes on a week day or weekend. Which do you prefer?

Hi Michelle,
I came to your first class on 3rd Sept had a wonderful day and learnt heaps. The cake looked so good I’ve been asked to make my God Son’s christening cake – however they’ve asked for vanilla. Should I make the cake using a Bakels mix and if so a vanilla one or white mud and add muffin mix? HELP…please. Thanks Deb

That’s wonderful!! You do not need to mix the bakels white mixes so use which ever you can find. The tip is to bake at a lower temperature – it takes longer but the result is much nicer. Also a little extra vanilla and some lemon zest is a nice touch. Have fun with the Christening cake. Bye for now, Michelle
