Inspired by Michelle Cake Designs colourful signature cake.
I just put this post together because I have had a lot of questions about how I made this cake. I should say first that I am a little embarrassed about the quality of the finish as at the time it was just an idea I was playing around with and I never expected to do anything with it. In the end I got such a lovely reaction that I ended up using it as my signature cake but usually only show it in a small image !!
The design for the cake came from a piece of fabric that I saw and loved at a craft show.
I covered the cake in the brown then I cut out some of the detail so I did not have too much thickness of icing and then layered some of the flower patterns. To be honest this took forever to do and it also took a fair bit of time making all the colours – I think the result is worth it but it is an expensive design to replicate time wise.
I covered the cake board in matching brown fondant and trimmed it in blue to match my business colours.
Ever since I made this colourful cake I have wanted to make a two tier version to display in my studio but I just never have time to make cakes for myself so it is on my long list of “things to do” !!!!
Cake decorating tip:
Material is a great design source as it teaches you colour combination and it creates the structure of your design. With a piece of fabric in front of you it is very easy to visualise your final design.
A big thank you for your kind words.
Bye for now, Michelle
